Eagle 102.7 plays the song “She’s About a Mover” by the Sir Douglas Quintet, a big hit for the group in 1965. But it’s unfair to think of the band as one hit wonders, when the band had several top 40 hits and actually released an album every couple of years all the way to 2013… a long and successful career. Today on the Eagle, our forgotten oldie is The Sir Douglas Quintet’s “Mendocino”, a song that reached #27 on the Hot 100 in 1969, staying on the charts for 15 weeks. At one time the Texas band was as highly regarded in Europe as the Rolling Stones or the Beach Boys, and they are considered rock pioneers for melting Tex-Mex and Cajun styles into their rock and roll. Listen for “Mendocino”, the Eagle forgotten oldie at 7:35 this morning.
