Do your grade school aged kids have a smartphone? A national movement, Wait Until 8th, is encouraging parents to sign a pledge to not get their child a smartphone before 8th grade. According to the movement’s founder, many parents give their kids a smartphone because ‘everyone had them’ and they did not want their child to feel left out. I believe in the simple rule that if kids can’t pay for their own cell phones, they shouldn’t have one. So 8th grade sounds about right to me. By the way, I still don’t own a cellphone.
