Today is the anniversary of the first performance in 1958 of a band in Liverpool named “The Quarrymen”. August 29, 1958 shows up in several histories as the first date, but personally I believe they were performing as The Quarrymen a full year earlier. The important thing is, that The Quarrymen eventually became The Beatles and also served as the way John Lennon met Paul McCartney and George Harrison. So let’s use today to celebrate the origin of the greatest rock band in History, the Beatles.
Interestingly, in 1994 a sharp promoter got the five original Quarrymen together (the non-Beatle members) and since then they’ve had several successful tours and recorded three albums, mostly old rock covers and skiffle songs.
