Minnie Riperton would have been 70 today. An amazing singer, with a five octave vocal range, her career was cut short in 1979 when the breast cancer she battled for 3 1/2 years finally ended her life. The height of her career was in 1975, when her song”Loving You” hit #1 on the Hot 100. I remember the song best as one of the most requested records at the old Macamba Club in downtown LaCrosse in the spring and summer of 1975. I would bet there are many married couples that slow danced to that great song, my wife and I included. Today it’s just another forgotten oldie.
