In 1966, American pop/rock stars Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs scored their second monster hit, when “Little Red Riding Hood” climbed to #2 on the Hot 100, sold a million copies, and earned a gold record. A musical fairy tale, the song was also #2 in Canada, and Cashbox had it hitting #1. “Red” was Sam the Sham’s last top ten hit although he reached the top 40 a half dozen times before Sam went solo (mostly unsuccessfully) in 1970. Today we seem to remember Sam’s “Wooly Bully” while “Red Riding Hood” is another forgotten oldie.
