Today’s forgotten oldie was written by John Sebastian and released as a single by The Lovin’ Spoonful in 1967, reaching #15 on the Hot 100. “Darling Be Home Soon” tells of a musician on the road that misses the lady back home. Many artists covered the song, and Joe Cocker liked it so much he performed it on stage for many years at his shows. The song was also the writer’s favorite, and he performed it as part of his five-song set at Woodstock in 1969. It’s a great song and it’s popularity was probably aided by people who thought it was a soldier in Vietnam singing the song to the lady back home. It was originally released on the soundtrack of the movie “You’re A Big Boy Now”. Sadly, “Darling Be Home Soon” is a forgotten oldie today.
