Did you know it’s Safe Boating Week? Yup, all the way through Friday and there’s a good reason that it’s the week before Memorial Day. Because this weekend will officially kick off boating season for the summer of 2018 and we want to make sure you’re ready to not only have fun, but to get yourself and everyone with you home safely after all that fun on the river!
At the radio station we have a boat every summer called “The Beach Cruiser” provided by our friends at American Marine. Did you know that each person that takes the Beach Cruiser out on the river has to pass a training course? Think about that, have you ever had any boat training? You need to know a lot of things out there, what the different colored buoys mean, how to spot a wing dam, what to do in a no-wake zone, how to pull into a beach, how to pull into a dock, and a myriad of things related to boat safety and etiquette. There are a lot of great places to get help if you need it… start online with the American Boating Association. They have a great website that has a ton of tip, procedures and even a training course. Click here to get started.
Good luck, have fun, and we’ll see you on the river!
