Friday the 13th is bad luck, everyone knows it. There have been surveys that have nearly 90% of us believing Friday the 13th is bad luck. Me included, big time. I have had several instances of bad luck, even tragedy on Friday the 13ths in my life.
But first, where did the superstition come from? Nobody knows for sure, but a lot of people believe it started with 13 people at the last supper, Jesus and 12 disciples with Judas in the 13th spot, supper on Maundy Thursday, next day is Good Friday, and there you are. Other people think it originated on Friday, October 13th, 1307 when the King of France unjustly executed a group of knights templar, burning them at the stake while the leader cursed humanity.
Friday the 13th even has it’s own phobia, called paraskevidekatriaphobia. A lot of people have triskaidekaphobia, which is fear of the number 13. They also reference Friggatriskaidekaphobics, which I think is just street talk. I guess I’m the first one… I’ve been fired on Friday the 13th, had a car accident on Friday the 13th, and had a best friend (my college roommate) killed on Friday the 13th.
