1969 Brian Jones of the Stones was found dead in his swimming pool, just three weeks after he was kicked out of the band.

1971 Jim Morrison was found dead in his bathtub in Paris.

1973 David Bowie ends a 60-date tour in London where he announces that it was the last show he would ever do. His retirement was short-lived however. Less than a year later, he was back on stage in the US with the Diamond Dogs tour.

1981 On the 10th anniversary of Jim Morrison’s death, the surviving members of The Doors, Robby Kreiger, Ray Manzarek and John Densmore led fans in a graveside tribute in the Paris cemetery where Morrison is buried.

2007 Boots Randolph, the saxophone player best known for the 1963 hit “Yakety Sax”, died at the age of 80.
