In 1967, San Francisco was “the Scene”. Home to the hippie culture, the summer of love, and the anti-war protests of the Vietnam war, Eric Burdon and the new Animals visited the city during an unusually warm spring in 1967. The band wrote the song “San Franciscan Nights” after that visit. The song was recorded, released and immediately climbed into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The song is full of 60’s references and cliches… but it’s still a classic. Unfortunately it’s largely forgotten today.
