One of the most interesting bands of the 60’s, The Cryan Shames had several hits during their heyday, but never achieved national success. How can that be? The fact is that the band was huge in the Chicago area, and did well in the midwest (everyone in the midwest listened to WLS AM in Chicago at night) but were virtually unheard of in New York and L.A.. Their record sales in Chicago and the midwest were so strong that they appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 several times, but never had a true national hit record. They actually never had a song reach the Billboard or Cashbox top 40, but were listed at #1 several times in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. They were a great band, and their vocals were outstanding. Today’s forgotten oldie is a great example, #1 in the midwest, #85 nationally… from 1966 the Cryan Shames and “It Could Be We’re in Love”.
