One of the truly forgotten artists of the 60’s and 70’s is Melanie.  Born Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk, she has always gone by just Melanie.  She was huge in the late 60’s and 70’s, with several top ten hits, and was one of three headlining females to perform at Woodstock in 1969.  She has also quietly released nearly 40 albums over the years and yet is most remembered for her #1 hit “Brand New Key” about roller skating.  Her music is different, but really, really good. Today’s forgotten oldie went to #6 on the hot 100 in 1970, and Melanie wrote it about performing at Woodstock, the song is “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)”.  This is a great song….
