Today’s forgotten oldie is one of those songs you’ve heard many, many times, because so many people recorded it. The version I like best was also the most commercially successful, from Linda Ronstadt. Linda’s version hit #7 on the Hot 100 in 1979, outperforming the previous 1965 Smokey Robinson and the Miracles hit. The song has been covered by tons of artists, from Ella Fitzgerald to Todd Rundgren to Lenny Kravits to Aretha Franklin… and on and on. The song deserves more than to be just another forgotten oldie, it’s a true classic.
