Today’s forgotten oldie, “Joanne” was a hit in 1970 for The First National Band, reaching #21 on the Hot 100. If you’ve never heard of the band, you’re not alone… their career was short, even though they produced three albums in a year. But the big deal here is that the singer and leader of The First National Band was Mike Nesmith, guitar player for the Monkees who had broken up the year before. And surprisingly the band was very popular on the LA club scene playing along side bands like the Flying Burrito Brothers. But they didn’t get along and broke up after a year. So, today’s forgotten oldie comes from Mike Nesmith and The First National Band… and a lot of people think it’s a pretty weird song… I like it, “Joanne”.
