I don’t remember anything like it. How many times have you heard that in the last couple of weeks? Of course I’m talking about the amazing rain we seem to get every year now during the summer. The past couple of weeks we’ve seen and heard of homes destroyed, roads underwater and damaged, animals lost, and small, normally harmless waterways such as Coon Creek in Coon Valley, rising many feet above it’s banks and causing many thousands of dollars in damage. This morning we had over a dozen schools closed due to flooding… on the first school day of the year. Unheard of. The past five years it hasn’t really let up either… and it’s even been the Mississippi in July and August too, not just in the spring.
And now today we start with a flood warning and a decent rain, a short break for some welcome sunshine, and then tonight and tomorrow we are forecast to go through heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms again, along with a flash flood watch for many counties in our area.
So is this the way it’s going to be from now on? And are we going to get this kind of moisture (meaning snow) this winter? I truly hope not.
