Gerry and the Pacemakers were kind of like “Beatles Lite”. They came from Liverpool, they were big in the same Hamburg spots as the Beatles, they were the second band signed by Brian Epstein, and they even had a movie that was very similar to the Beatles’ movie A Hard Day’s Night, but the Pacemaker’s movie was Ferry Cross the Mersey. They also had a string of hits in the USA as part of the British Invasion. One of their earliest hits was “I Like It”. The song went to #17 on the Hot 100 in 1963, and then climbed back to #17 a year later when it was reissued. Strange things like that happened back then.
Anyway, “I Like It” is a fun song, catchy, and to me, it’s Gerry and the Pacemakers best song. But to everyone else it’s a forgotten oldie.
