I can never figure out why the song “Lay Lady Lay” isn’t on oldie playlists any more. It’s a great song, and once you get that it’s not about sex, you might agree with me. Not only is it a great song, it’s one of Dylan’s biggest hits. “Lay Lady Lay” peaked at #7 on the Hot 100, exactly 49 years ago today, 9/6/69. Dylan sang the song very differently than his usual, crooning the words in a much deeper voice. The song has been covered by many, many artists over the years, and featured in tv shows and movies. Dylan still performs the song at his concerts largely because his crowds demand it. So again, why is this song a forgotten oldie?
