Before they hit it big, The Captain & Tennille traveled around 22 states in a pickup truck, handing out promo copies of their first single to every radio station they could find. The song caught the attention of record execs at A & M records, and they signed the duo and released the record. It had regional success, but a few months later the duo had their big breakthrough with the #1 “Love Will Keep Us Together”. A & M decided to re-release the first song as a follow-up and this time “The Way I Want To Touch You” climbed all the way to #4 on the Hot 100 going gold in the process. It was one of five top ten hits the Captain and Tennille had in 1975 and 1976. Today though, it’s another forgotten oldie.
