Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs was a Texas based band that scored several huge hits in the 60’s. Their 1966 smash was “Li’l Red Riding Hood”, a novelty song that climbed to #2 on the Hot 100, #1 on Cashbox, and sold over a million records. The band had a couple of hits after that but their popularity steadily declined over the next few years and the band broke up in the 70’s. Sam spent a number of years banging around, he worked as an interpreter in Mexico and as a mate on a fishing boat, but finally the oldies reunion circuit called in the late 90’s and Sam put the band back together again. He’s also a successful motivational speaker. Many of his hit records are forgotten oldies today, Red Riding Hood is my favorite.
