She was known as the lady with the high voice and flowers in her hair… but Minnie Riperton was much more than a high voice… she could enunciate in the Whistle Registry. On three occasions she was actually recorded covering seven octaves and had what experts call a coloratura soprano vocal range. Her career was cut short by her death from cancer not long after her career skyrocketed in 1975 with her #1 smash “Lovin’ You”. The song was also number one in 24 countries besides the USA. She had several other hits on the R & B chart, but Lovin’ You was her signature song, and today it’s another forgotten oldie.
