I haven’t gone deer hunting for a couple of years now, sometimes life conspires to keep us from activities we love to do. When someone asks me if I miss deer hunting, my usual response is “of course I do”. Truth is I do miss it, but not for the reasons you might think. One of the things I miss the most is being part of what I call “the orange army”. When you head out to the deer woods on opening morning, the first thing you notice is the traffic… and almost everyone in the vehicles is wearing blaze orange. Then there’s the gas stations and convenience stores… an army of orange clad people getting gas, coffee, donuts… whatever. And when you arrive at the hunting site, there’s your merry band of hunters all in the orange uniform. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the hunt, sitting in a peaceful woods waiting and listening. I enjoy a good drive, following a blood trail, and even field dressing and hauling a deer back to the truck. But what I think I miss most is being part of the “orange army”. Be safe tomorrow hunters, and good hunting! For safety tips go here.
