In 1963 Gerry and the Pacemakers released their debut single “How Do You Do It?” in Great Britain, it quickly went to number one. The song failed to chart in the USA however. But, after a couple of U.S. hits (I Like It & Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying) the song was reissued in the USA in 1964 and climbed to #9 on the Hot 100. Their manager Brian Epstein (who also managed the Beatles at the time) had given the song to Gerry after the Beatles had recorded it and decided not to issue it as a single. That decision paved the way to stardom for Gerry and the Pacemakers, you might say the Beatles opened the door for the group by not issuing a song.
Today the song has passed into the limbo world of the forgotten oldie. Here’s the song done by Gerry a few years ago.
